Obituary for Leonard Chowns

On Sunday November 12, 2023 at the West Parry Sound Health Care Centre, Leonard
suddenly, due to pneumonia, went home to be with his Lord. Christ took his hand
and said "come Home with me, my good and faithful servant". Loving and devoted Husband of 54 years (November 15) of Gail (Coles), who is now heart broken. Proud father of Richard (Ashley Rachar) and Andrew. Especially proud of
his three Grandsons Luke, Tripp and Dax Who constantly brought a smile to his face,
having a special bond with each of them. His childhood, spent mostly in Toronto and Hockley Valley, he was surrounded by a loving family. Father Victor, and mother Helen(Tompkins). Sisters Barbara
(Eichler)and Elizabeth(Jack Pollard) and Brother Ron. Niece Lynda (Terry)and nephew
Victor Eichler grew up almost as siblings, as did many of his first cousins, all who he loved dearly. Fondly remembered by Brother in law John Coles (Patricia), Nieces and Nephews, and extended family. Leonard would have loved to be a professional student! He constantly continued to learn. Starting in the 60s, he became an auto mechanic. Wanting to improve himself for his growing family in the '70s, Leonard attended Centennial College
studying Avionics(Aircraft Electronics). This lead to a career with Kodak Canada.
He was part of the International Design Team with an office both in Head Office
Toronto and Rochester New York. His continued studies qualified him to become a
member of O.A.C.E.T.T. (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians
and Technologists). He was proud to use the C.E.T. designation after his name.
1998 brought another change, the family purchased Maple Leaf Resort and Cottages.
He soon found it necessary to join the work team here, stating he never worked so
hard in his life!! When the family, closed the Resort, Leonard needed something to
do and Home Hardware was his first step into the Retail World. Following that
Leonard found his true calling. His job as Walmart Greeter was perfect. He
joyfully greeted all who came through the doors and especially delighted in meeting
Brothers and Sisters in Christ. His love of languages was brought into play , as
he tried, and mostly succeeded, to greet each person in their first language. He
tried to make a sincere connection with everyone and always wanted them to know he
truly cared about each and every one. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Foley Community Hall and Resource Centre,
60 Rankin Lake Road, Seguin on Saturday November 18, 2023. The Family invites you
to join them 1 to 3 pm. Donations in his memory would be appreciated to any Church, The Friendship Centre,
or Harvest Share to continue helping his community.
